What a great busy week of learning at Brook Park. The third graders did a spectacular job at their music performance last night!I want to remind everyone that every student should have an envelope with the 2nd trimester report cards, NWEA MAP report, and possibly another report (band/intervention/goals report).
IAR Testing:
IAR (Illinois Assessment of Readiness) testing will take place the next two weeks (March 13-March 24). Third, Fourth and Fifth grade will be taking two Reading tests and three Math tests and grades K-2 do not take this state required assessment.
The schedule is as follows but could change due to teacher absences (teachers will reach out with any changes):
Grade 3
10:50-12:05 ELA (3/14 and 3/16)
10:50-11:50 Math (3/15,3/21,3/22)
Grade 4
9:30-11:15 ELA (3/13 and 3/14)
9:30-10:45 Math (3/15, 3/16 and 3/17)
Grade 5
11:30-1:00 ELA (3/13 and 3/14)
11:30-12:30 Math (3/15, 3/16 and 3/17)
This test is taken on the students Chromebook and it is important that it is charged daily. As always, our school goal is that the students perform their best on the test.
During the IAR Test gum chewing or having mints will be allowed but of course is optional. As parents you may also supply another healthy alternative. We will provide sugar free gum (Orbit/Trident/Ice Breaker Ice Cubes) and mints (LifeSavers PepOmint mints) but you also can have your child bring their own to enjoy during testing. After the testing is complete, gum and candy will not be allowed during class time.
You can help your child to do his or her best by following these guidelines:
Make sure he/she gets ample sleep.
Provide a nutritious breakfast each morning.
Be Prompt. School begins at 8:00.
Send your child to school with a smile, a hug and just ask them to try their best!

Brook Park’s K-Kids club is hosting a Shoe Drive! Get started on your spring cleaning by gathering gently worn, used and new shoes! These shoes will get a second life with those in need. We’re collecting all types of shoes: sneakers, boots, dress shoes, sandals, athletic and casual shoes. The collection runs Feb. 27th through March 24th. There will be collection bins for each grade level as well as bins at Door 1 and Door 21.
SEL Blurb:
Brook Park students (K-5) focused on self-management during their SEL lessons this week. Self-management is taking responsibility for your own choices. This helps you make the best choices for yourself so you can reach your goals. Students explored setting goals and the importance of routines.

Pet Parade
The LaGrange Pet Parade is hosting a coloring contest this year for all local students. The winner will be chosen by the La Grange Art League and be honored as the Junior Grand Marshal in the Pet Parade. They will ride in their own convertible plus get their photo in The Doings local newspaper. The deadline is March 31st at midnight. We have attached the directions and the coloring page.
